Monday Motivation

Woke up this morning and can’t believe how sore I am. Then again, I worked legs/hamstrings/glutes yesterday at the gym…so I fully expected to be sore,  just not this sore! They all say muscle soreness is the best soreness…but, I think no soreness this is the best soreness! I mean who likes being sore? Who likes basically crawling up and down their stairway because their quads hurt so badly? Who likes being barely able to get up from and down on the toilet without the aid of a handle, a counter, or someone else? It’s all pretty funny when you think … Continue reading Monday Motivation

Falling off the Fitness Wagon…

Oddly enough, as I was typing the title for this post I had a bright, vivid, momentary vision of a Radio Flyer Wagon and me falling off, and out, of it. I’m not into making any kind of ‘feeling’ about anything wrong…as in saying one shouldn’t be feeling what they are feeling and they should do something about what they are feeling, immediately. That kind of reaction typically gets me (or anyone) nowhere. Whatever someone is ‘feeling’ is what they are ‘feeling’…why should it be any other way? However, feelings aren’t the end-all and be-all of much of anything. Even … Continue reading Falling off the Fitness Wagon…

Breaking the Stigma Behind the word ‘Diet’.

When you hear the word ‘diet’, what is the first thing you think? It’s been my experience that the word immediately has a negative effect on people. But, that’s silly…because if you eat, at all/ever, the word diet is already at work in your life. Here are some definitions of the word ‘diet’ from dictionary.com: 1. food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and its effects on health: Milk is a wholesome article of diet. 2. A particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat … Continue reading Breaking the Stigma Behind the word ‘Diet’.

Be the Example You Want to See in the World — This isn’t a Gandhi Thing…

You’ve probably heard the quote before, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” by Mahatma Gandhi. It’s a brilliant phrase…one, I think, that could alter the world as we know it. However, this is not exactly that. Whether you know it or not, you are setting an example for somebody. It could be that you are setting an example for a co-worker in what “being on time” means at your workplace. It could be that you are the example for how to act in a crisis, or at the store, or in a restaurant….or even in your … Continue reading Be the Example You Want to See in the World — This isn’t a Gandhi Thing…

A Compelling Case of the “I Don’t Want To’s!”

It’s too hot. It’s too cold. It’s too early. It’s too late. I’m a little tired. I have too much to do. Nobody cares. It’s Tuesday. I need to get gas. Blah…blah…blah…I just don’t want to. Have you ever had these types of conversations with yourself?  Yesterday it sounded brilliant.  You planned out the next day perfectly so that you could get that much needed work out in.  You packed your gym bag, planned your meals, and went to bed sure that absolutely nothing would get in the way of you and your fitness the next day.  Then, BEEP! BEEP! … Continue reading A Compelling Case of the “I Don’t Want To’s!”

HAHAHA-LLYWOOD Fit

“The Biggest Loser” has been a favorite “reality” TV show of mine for years…in fact, it was the only reality show I watched until I recently fell in deep, deep love for “The Voice”. C’mon Adam Levine, you’re about perfect!! While I enjoy TBL, and look forward to every Wednesday (as I watch it the day after airing on Hulu.com), the show irritates me in some ways. This is the type of show that doesn’t need drama to entice viewers. The show is about successful rapid weight loss and transformation of lives. It sells itself. Unfortunately, I believe Hollywood is … Continue reading HAHAHA-LLYWOOD Fit

Who’s in My Stall?!

I debated exactly what to name this post for awhile. The other choice was “Routine Makes The World Go ‘Round”. Either way, this was spurred on by someone being in my (apparently) coveted bathroom stall in the women’s bathroom at work. It had never really occurred to me how routines and systems are built into our day to day tasks. From the moment the alarm goes off to the moment your head hits the pillow we, as human beings, operate under routines and systems we’ve programmed ourselves to function by. In this case, I noticed my routine of going to … Continue reading Who’s in My Stall?!

Excuses seem so valid….

It’s so easy, isn’t it? The alarm goes off, and before you can even hit the snooze button you’ve already come up with 5 excuses to not get up “right now” and work out…well, a minimum of 5. Or, you plan to workout after work. but by the time you actually get home and settled you’re hungry and say to yourself, “I’ll workout later.” It could be Saturday, or Sunday, or the 12th, or a Tuesday, sunny, rainy, snowy, February, too hot, too cold, too comfy at home, bad traffic, or too much to do, whatever your excuse is to … Continue reading Excuses seem so valid….

Fad–Rhymes with Bad…

As I was saying…there is no “right” diet…no “one way” to lose weight…no magic tricks to mysteriously, yet wonderfully, shed pounds off any human.  And yet…there are innumerable such diets out there that people buy into day in and day out.  I’ll list a few fad diets that I know of off the top of my head that immediately ring silly: 1.  Atkins 2. South Beach 3. Cabbage Soup 4. Grapefruit 5. HCG 6. Low Fat anything 7. Eating Slow and Chewing More (although a good idea anyhow, not a diet!) 8. Baby Food 9. Chocolate (I wish!…But I’ve heard … Continue reading Fad–Rhymes with Bad…

The “Right” Way To Health, Happiness, and Fitness

I wish there was a “Right” way…or “One” way for that matter…but there simply isn’t.  Every month I hear of a new fad, a new trendy way to “lose weight fast”, “5 moves to tone your ___ in 20 minutes”, “6 foods that will trim your waistline”, and the list goes on, and on, and on.  Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, each human being is different, thus, each body is different.  It would be fool hardy to blindly believe that what works for one will work for another.  As it would also be silly to simply … Continue reading The “Right” Way To Health, Happiness, and Fitness
